About
A urologist who works across the whole specialty
Dr. Monil Dedhia is a consultant urologist practising in Mumbai. He treats the full range of adult urological conditions, from kidney stones and prostate problems through to urological cancers, reconstructive surgery and renal transplantation.
His training took him across three states. He completed his MBBS at MGM Medical College in Aurangabad, trained in general surgery under the National Board of Examinations at Asopa Hospital and Research Centre in Agra, and then moved to Government Medical College in Kottayam for his MCh in urology. He is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Kottayam is where most of his surgical foundation was laid. The unit there carries a heavy and varied caseload, and his years as a trainee and afterwards as a bonded senior resident gave him broad exposure to endourology, uro-oncology, open and reconstructive surgery, emergency urology and transplantation.
He went on to work as a consultant across Kerala, including a period at Smita Hospital in Thodupuzha where he established the urology department and built up its clinical and surgical services from the beginning.
He now consults in Mumbai and is affiliated with Nanavati Max Super Specialty Hospital, Siddhi Vinayak Healthcare Hospital and Holy Family Hospital in Bandra.

Surgical experience
Breadth before volume
Across more than seven years in urology, Dr. Dedhia has performed over 2,500 urological surgeries.
The breadth of that work matters more than the count. It covers endourology and stone disease, prostate and bladder disorders, uro-oncology, reconstructive urology, emergency urology and renal transplantation, which means most urological problems can be assessed and treated by the same surgeon rather than passed along.

Approach to care
How consultations are run
Explanation comes first
Most people arrive worried, holding a scan report they cannot read. The first job is to explain what is actually going on in language that makes sense, so that whatever is decided afterwards is a decision you understand.
Treatment matched to the person
The same diagnosis does not always call for the same treatment. Age, kidney function, other medical conditions and what matters to you in daily life all change what the right option looks like.
Evidence rather than habit
Recommendations follow current urological evidence and established surgical practice, not simply the approach that is quickest or most familiar.
Surgery when it helps, not by default
A good share of urological problems are managed without an operation. Where surgery is the right answer, it is offered with the reasoning, the alternatives and the recovery set out plainly beforehand.
